BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES

[ Proclamation No. 341, December 24, 1964 ]

DECLARING JANUARY 6 OF EVERY YEAR AS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DAY.

WHEREAS, the Community Development Program is designed to create and provide opportunities and conditions with which the barrio people can improve their communities.

WHEREAS, the Community Development Program has been an effective instrument in the social and economic changes taking place in the country today; and

WHEREAS, there is a need to impress upon the barrio people the value and significance of community development in improving their lives;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare January 6, 1965, and every year thereafter as Community Development Day, and designate the Presidential Assistant on Community Development (PACD) to take charge of, and coordinate, all activities in the celebration of this day.

I enjoin all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors and barrio councils throughout the land to observe this day fittingly in order to foster and promote self-help development in the time-honored Filipino tradition of “bayanihan” thus enabling our people to actively participate in the growth and prosperity of the country.1aшphi1

IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
