DECLARING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 1964, AS POETRY DAY

WHEREAS, poems are expressive of the purest thoughts, high aspirations, and kindered ideals of man; and

WHEREAS, these effusions of the heart uplift the human spirit, soothe the soul, and are sources of inspiration;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Thursday, October 15, 1964, as “Poetry Day” in recognition of the poet’s role in our civilized society under the auspices of the United Poets Laureate International.
