[ Proclamation No. 304, August 28, 1964 ]

DECLARING AUGUST 29 TO SEPTEMBER 5 OF EVERY YEAR AS RICE AND CORN WEEK

WHEREAS, one of the objectives of the five-year integrated socio-economic development program of the present administration is increased production of agricultural crops, particularly rice and corn;

WHEREAS, the increased production of these staple crops of the Philippines will bring about a more abundant life for our people;

WHEREAS, pursuant to Proclamation No. 53, dated September 28, 1962, an annual National Rice and Corn Production Contest from July 1, 1962, through June 30, 1966, has been launched by the National Rice and Corn Production Contest Committee to arouse national consciousness and interest among our farmers to increase their production per unit area by the adoption of improved and scientific ways of farming, which will redound to the permanent improvement of Philippine agriculture both qualitatively and quantitatively; and

WHEREAS, every year national prizes are awarded to the winners as an incentive for more farmers to join the contest;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, do hereby declare the period from August 28 to September 3 of every year as Rice and Corn Week under the auspices of the Rice and Corn Production Coordinating Council. I urge all government officials and employees, national, provincial, City, municipal, and barrio officials and civic organizations to cooperative actively in making the Week a success.1aшphi1
