[ Proclamation No. 230, April 15, 1964 ]

EXTENDING THE PERIOD OF THE NEW YORK WORLD’S FAIR FUND DRIVE TO DECEMBER 31, 1964

WHEREAS, participation in international fairs and expositions provides an effective means of encouraging and assisting economic, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and cultural ties among participating nations;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Government, through the Department of Commerce and Industry, has committed itself to participate in the New York World’s Fair, covering culture, education, art, science, entertainment, commerce and industry, which will be held in Flushing Meadow Park New York, U.S.A., for a period of two years from April 21, 1964 to October 18, 1964, and from April 21, 1965 to October 17, 1965, and adequate budgetary provision is a prerequisite for the success of this joint undertaking of the government and the private sector; and

WHEREAS, there is an imperative need of extending the Fund Drive authorized for this purpose in order to afford the private sector sufficient time within which to raise its counterpart of the government’s share in the project;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby extend the period of the New York World’s Fair Fund Drive to December 31, 1964. I call on all business enterprises throughout the Philippines, including government entities, to extend their unstinted support and cooperation and to contribute their share to this laudable project in order that Philippine participation in this Exposition will be a success that will redound to the expansion and promotion of our foreign trade and to the development of our national economy.1aшphi1
