[ Proclamation No. 224, April 6, 1964 ]

DECLARING A PERIOD OF NATIONAL MOURNING FOR THE DEATH OF GENERAL OF THE ARMY DOUGLAS MACARTHUR

WHEREAS, the tree world has suffered a distinct loss of a great soldier and statesman in the death of General of the Army Douglas MacArthur;

WHEREAS, he was the architect of the Philippine national defense setup and was instrumental in the liberation of our people; and

WHEREAS, his efforts in prosecuting the last world war to an early end and in restoring peace in this part of the world have earned for him the eternal gratitude of the Filipino people;

NOW THEREFORE, I, DIOSDADO MACAPAGAL, President of the Philippines, in tribute to General of the Army Douglas MacArthur for his achievements in promoting world peace do hereby proclaim the period from April 6, 1964, to the date of his burial as a period of national mourning. During this period, flags of all government buildings and installations throughout the Philippines shall be flown at half-mast. The representatives of the Philippines in foreign countries should make arrangements for the display of the flag at half-mast over all embassies, legations, and consular offices.1aшphi1
