Proclamation No. 568

CALLING THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IN SPECIAL SESSION TO CANVASS THE RESULTS OF THE PLEBISCITE HELD ON JUNE 18, 1940.

Whereas, in pursuance of the Constitution of the Philippines and of Commonwealth Act No. 517, amendments to the Constitution of the Philippines and to the Ordinance appended thereto, proposed by the National Assembly in its Resolution No. 38, adopted on September 15, 1939, as amended by its Resolution No. 73, adopted on April 11, 1940, were submitted to the Filipino people for approval or disapproval on the 18th day of June, 1940;

Whereas, a formal request has been made by the Speaker of the National Assembly that a special session of the Assembly be called for the purpose of canvassing the and certifying the results of the election so held on June 18, 1940; and

Whereas, the public interest requires that the returns of the election be canvassed and the results thereof be certified as early as possible;

Now, therefore, I, Manuel L. Quezon, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the power vested in me by the Constitution do hereby call the National Assembly in special session in the City of Manila on eighth day of July 1940, at four o’clock in the afternoon, to receive and canvass the returns and certify the results of the election held on June 18, 1940, and to consider such other matters as may be submitted from time to time by the President.

All persons entitled to act as members of the Second National Assembly are required to take notice of this proclamation.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Commonwealth of the Philippines to be affixed.

Done at the City of Manila, this twenty-fourth day of June, in the year of Our Lord, nineteen hundred and forty, and of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, the fifth.
